Google TV Remote Control App was released earlier in December 2010, for Android. But now it is also available for iPhones, iPads, & iPods that are running iOS 3 or higher. Luckily, it is available for download in App Store now.
Before you run to pick it up and start flipping channels, however, keep in mind that this is meant only for Google TV-enabled devices, so unless you have the right box on your network already, it’s not going to do anything for you. If you do have a Google TV box set up, however, the app will do a whole lot of fun things for you, from switching channels to accessing your favorite shows with voice control and even using the iPhone’s screen as an interface to drive the onscreen pointer for Google TV.
The credit goes to Google for bringing this app to iOS. Here is a summary about this app:
- Your phone improves standard TV remote activities like changing channels or accessing your DVR. I love using it at night, because the back light means I can see all the buttons in the dark and the buttons are easy to find.
- You can also interact with your TV in ways you never have before. For instance, try using the voice search to find your favorite shows and movies just by speaking into your phone. There should be less fighting over the remote, too, since multiple phones can work as remotes at the same time, you just need to agree on what to watch.
